Epilogue: I’m Safe (The Final Strip)
Oh, God, this day has finally come. So here it is, the last strip. I’m sitting here stunned, not quite sure where to start. I’ve always loved drawing and art. There was a time period where I wasn’t doing much of it while my band was taking off and lots of touring kept me busy. All that time, though, I missed art. I always looked at art and music a bit like two sides of the same coin… They were both very important to me and I didn’t want to sacrifice either one.
Four years ago, I decided I really wanted to reconnect with art since our band wasn’t doing much in the way of touring anymore. I loved reading comics and telling stories so starting a webcomic seemed like the perfect thing. It gave me an excuse to draw each day as well as learn Photoshop. I knew it would be rough-going in the beginning but I also understood that growth would happen. I can’t speak for other comic readers but I like reading comics where I can not only follow the story but see the maturation of the artist as well. So, without truly knowing what I was getting into, I just started throwing them up on the web.
You guys, creating a comic is about the least glamorous thing in the world. You spend hours upon hours alone making something people digest in 10 seconds. Unless you’re one of the big established comics, it’s not the most financially lucrative either. But you know what? It’s freaking fun. I love doing it. I truly enjoy it in a way that it never feels like work. I’m proud of the fact that I put this comic out for 4 solid years and NEVER missed an update. And you, the readers, are a massive part of that. You make all that effort worth it. I can’t tell you how much it’s meant to me to have people make this comic a part of their lives. I seriously have the best readers ever. There has been little to no trolling in the comments on my site, which is amazing. We’ve got some real characters who read this comic, every bit as crazy as the people in the strip.
Even though this comic is ending, am I done with comics? Heck no! In fact, I’m starting another one right now. This very instant! It’ll be quite a bit different from this one, more of a gag strip that will allow me to go in a ton of different directions. It’s going to be all over the place. Maybe a Tripp character will show up here or there. I’ve already drawn Sam into a strip. I’ve been busting my butt building a buffer for it so I can develop my next story-based comic alongside it. I’m going to play the Peppermint Helmet update schedule by ear at the beginning but the last 4 years should tell you it will be consistent. To make things even easier, I figure Thursdays at 9am would be a posting time people can remember so we’ll keep rolling with that. Why only one a week to start? That will allow me to devote some real time to getting that story-based comic off the ground.
If you want to keep up with the development of that project, I usually post sketches and whatnot to my instagram account here: http://instagram.com/spinester/
And extra good stuff to my Patreon here: http://patreon.com/billtaylor
Enough with the sappy goodbye stuff. Time for some exciting news! I worked tirelessly to make sure the Tripp Volume Two book and e-book would be ready for this momentous day! AND I’m going to run a super special deal for the most amazing readership around! For anyone who orders a PHYSICAL copy of the book the first week, I’ll draw you a sketch card of your favorite Tripp character for free! You can’t beat that with a stick!

Once again, thank you all so much for being a part of this experience with me. It’s been such a blast hanging out with you. Feel free to bring your lunacy over to my new comic: Peppermint Helmet. Click the name to head over there for some monkey-business (only the first strip is about monkeys). You guys are the best!
